A Rhythm Across Cultures: Indonesian Dance Class

On Saturday, October 3, 2026, the International Office at Agung Putra University invited exchange students from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University in Germany to try traditional Indonesian dance in Semarang.

Learning the choreography

Instructors Ms. Sangghita Anjali and Mr. Mahendra from Sanggar Tari Greget led the first class. The session went smoothly, and participants joined enthusiastically, especially Cara and Melanie.

"I'm really excited about this dance class because I used to take ballet classes when I was little in Germany," Melanie said.

At Karenina Agung Resort, Ms. Sangghita, assisted by Mr. Mahendra, taught the choreography. The instructor explained that it used traditional movements that participants could easily copy. Accompanied by gamelan music, they quickly picked up the movements.

During the session, the instructor explained that Mr. Mahendra had composed the music himself, played the gamelan instruments and recorded the result.

A shared experience

The participants, including three Agung Putra University students, were happy to have the opportunity and looked forward to the next class.
