Agung Putra University (APU) Prepares Graduating Students for the Global Industry

SEMARANG – Agung Putra University (APU) held an intensive preparation program for graduating students ahead of their graduation through an event titled “Transitioning to the Professional Industry.” The event took place at APU Campus in Gunungpati, Semarang, on Saturday, October 17, to prepare graduates for the challenges of the professional world.

The program aims to help prospective graduates adapt to the evolving industrial landscape while strengthening their competitiveness in the job market. Although APU has implemented an internationally oriented curriculum throughout students’ academic journeys, the university recognizes that additional preparation before graduation is essential to bridge the gap between academic life and the professional world.

During the opening session, President of APU Foundation, Prof. Dr. dr. Agung Putra, M.Si.Med., shared strategic insights into the competencies graduates need when entering the workforce. He emphasized the importance of resilience, agility, and analytical thinking in responding to changes and professional demands.

Prof. Agung explained that APU students have been equipped with a globally oriented curriculum and essential soft skills required in the industrial sector. These competencies must be applied in real-world situations to help graduates address challenges and adapt to workplace expectations.

“Throughout their studies at APU, students have been equipped with a globally oriented curriculum and essential soft skills, such as negotiation and problem-solving. These are the abilities they must put into practice when entering the industrial world. APU graduates must be resilient, adaptable, and possess analytical thinking skills,” Prof. Agung emphasized.

APU Encourages Graduates to Become Job Creators

In addition to preparing students for professional challenges, Prof. Agung encouraged prospective graduates to put into practice the research culture and entrepreneurial spirit they had developed throughout their studies at APU.

According to him, research-driven innovation and entrepreneurship play an important role in promoting economic independence and improving public welfare. He also called on graduates to contribute to national development by creating innovations that deliver tangible benefits to society.

“To restore the nation's former glory, let us work together to build an innovative research culture with a spirit of techno-socio entrepreneurship to promote economic independence and public welfare. APU graduates must have the courage to become job creators, not merely job seekers,” he added.

To strengthen graduates' readiness for the workplace, APU provided a range of training sessions covering career development, professional conduct, communication skills, and job application preparation. The program included the following topics:

  • Strategies for Competing in the Industrial World: Helping prospective graduates understand competency requirements and the dynamics of modern career development.
  • Ethics, Grooming, and Professionalism: Equipping students with an understanding of workplace ethics and how to build a professional personal image.
  • English for Specific Purposes (ESP): Strengthening professional English communication skills relevant to students' respective fields of expertise.
  • Personal Branding and Interview Hacks: Providing guidance on developing an effective Curriculum Vitae (CV) and strategies for succeeding in job interviews.

Through these sessions, prospective graduates are expected to develop more comprehensive workplace readiness, encompassing both professional skills and attitudes, before beginning their careers.

APU Expands International Partnerships with Universities and Industry

Beyond preparing students for the workforce, APU continues to strengthen human resource development by expanding strategic partnerships with industry players and overseas universities.

This initiative reflects APU’s commitment to providing broader international experiences for its academic community. Cross-border collaborations are expected to create opportunities for competency development, knowledge exchange, and stronger academic and professional relationships.

As a concrete step toward realizing its global vision, an APU delegation is scheduled to visit Malaysia and Vietnam in late October to establish partnerships with five leading universities.

The university’s international expansion agenda will continue with a visit to Japan toward the end of the year. In addition, APU is planning an academic visit to Germany next March involving both lecturers and students.

Through its graduate preparation program and expanding international network, APU aims to develop graduates who are not only ready to enter the workforce but are also capable of adapting, innovating, and contributing at the global level.
