Crossing Campuses: A Medical Student from UIN Walisongo Visits SCCR Indonesia and Agung Putra University
SEMARANG - Medical students from the Medical Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, UIN Walisongo Semarang, visited Stem Cell and Cancer Research (SCCR) Indonesia and Agung Putra University (APU) on Monday, September 21, 2026, in a visit that briefly brought two institutions working on opposite sides of medicine together.
Held on APU's campus, the visit gave students a closer look at the academic environment at APU and SCCR Indonesia's research activities in biomedical science. It also brought together APU members and international students from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, Germany, currently undertaking student and internship activities in Semarang.
Exploring SCCR Indonesia and APU
Founder and commissioner of APU and SCCR, Prof. Dr. dr. Agung Putra, M.Si., Med., opened the session with remarks welcoming the visiting student and introducing the connection between APU and SCCR Indonesia.
Participants were then introduced to research activities and facilities within SCCR Indonesia, giving a closer perspective on how academic learning connects with biomedical research and scientific development.
Head of Cancer Department, Dr. dr. Sugeng Ibrahim, M.Biomed (AAM), joined the discussion and interaction as well, adding another research voice to the exchange. Cara, Melanie, and Frederick, students and interns from Albstadt-Sigmaringen University, rounded out the group, giving the meeting an international element.
For students of medicine, stepping into a research environment outside the classroom offered a different way to understand how scientific knowledge develops alongside practical experience.
"A visit like this gives students an opportunity to see that learning does not stop in the classroom. Research, education, and interaction with people from different backgrounds can become part of their academic journey," Prof. Agung said.
Meeting Across Academic Backgrounds
An informal exchange followed, creating space for the medical student, APU representatives, and international students to share perspectives from their respective academic and cultural backgrounds.
For APU, bringing students from different institutions onto one campus opens doors for knowledge exchange and broader academic interaction. Encounters like this also introduce visitors to the relationship between higher education and research built through APU and SCCR Indonesia.
Small in scale but meaningful in substance, the September 21 visit brought together students, academics, and researchers from different educational backgrounds. Through continued interaction, APU offers a space where academic curiosity can meet research experience and international perspective.
